The Farm
Established in 1999 by owner and farmer Anthony Peters, Farm Direct Oyster Co. is located in Coffin Bay, South Australia with 3.5 hectares of farm sites in the Port Douglas & Kellidie Bay growing areas.
Constant tidal movement brings with it vital nutrients for our oysters direct from one of the most productive ecosystems on earth, the Southern Ocean.
Located on the remote West Coast of South Australia, the untouched environment in which we harvest from allows us to deliver a pure ‘farm to table’ product - a true taste of our southern seas.
A day in the life of an oyster farmer…

Each day our 8m boat is launched at Coffin Bay where we then make the 15 kilometre trip to our lease at Point Longnose in the Port Douglas growing region or 1.5 kilometre trip to our nursery lease in Kellidie Bay.

Our oysters are kept in baskets that hang by clips from adjustable lines that are fixed to the posts on our leases.
These adjustable lines allow the height of the baskets to be altered so that the oysters remain at their optimum growing position throughout all seasons. -

On arrival at the farm, oysters are checked for size and condition before the baskets are loaded on the boat and taken back to our land-based site in Coffin Bay. Here the oysters will be graded into sizes.

The oysters are graded into sizes using our SED computerised vision grading machine. As the oysters grow it is important to keep grading them so that they can be evenly distributed into clean bags with plenty of room for further growth.

The freshly graded oysters are then loaded on the boat and taken back to the farm.
The grading process not only provides an opportunity to clean the oysters but also promotes new growth when they return to the water.
